Away is an American travel and lifestyle brand. It is best known as a luggage designer, manufacturer and retailer, and led by founders, Stephanie Korey and Jennifer Rubio, in New York City. Since its foundation in 2015, Away has raised $31 million in financing and sold more than 300,000 suitcases, making it one of the highest funded female-backed startups.
The company primarily sells products online, but also has brick and mortar locations in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin, Texas. Its newest storefront opened up in London in August 2018, and is the company’s UK flagship location. Away is a direct-to-consumer retailer, which allows the company to sell directly to consumers without third-party wholesalers or distributors. Its products are available throughout the U.S. and in Europe. The company has also released a book The Places We Return To and publishes the digital magazine Here and the podcast Airplane Mode

We use our platform to amplify the work of others—like our partner, Peace Direct, a nonprofit that supports local peacebuilders in twelve areas of conflict around the world who work to address the triggers of violence and help prevent it. We’ve been working with them since before we sold our first suitcase, and we’ve been sharing their story with everyone who gets Away. We’ve also chosen to work with partners who support charitable causes, like Charity: Water, whose mission is to improve access to clean water, and Kode With Klossy, who works to empower girls to become leaders in tech. Together, we connect travelers with more than great luggage: we connect them with ways to leave the world a better place than they found it.
We don’t just seek out employees who believe in doing good—we enable them to do good every day. Our team volunteers their time during the workday to support Peace Direct and to contribute to other charitable causes of their choice—like dropping off donations at the Bowery Mission near our NYC headquarters. Even when we’re away, we look for ways to make the world a better place: on our company trip in 2018, members of the Away team took time to volunteer with World Central Kitchen in Puerto Rico. Each day, we work to become more than great employees: we work to be better global citizens.
